The West Bengal government launched the “Krishak Bandhu Scheme” to provide financial assistance to farmers in the state. Under this scheme, farmers are provided with financial assistance as well as insurance protection for farming. This scheme is completely state-run and only benefits registered farmers in West Bengal.

The কৃষক বন্ধুর Scheme was announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in 2019. Later, in 2021, the scheme was improved and relaunched under the name “Krishak Bandhu (New).” Its objective is to provide financial security to farmers so that they can continue their agricultural activities smoothly and remain protected in case of any financial crisis.

Objective of the কৃষক বন্ধুর Scheme

The primary objective of the Krishak Bandhu Scheme is to provide financial security to the state’s farmers. Farmers often face difficulties in purchasing seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, etc. for farming. Furthermore, in the event of crop failure or an accident, their families face financial hardship.

Therefore, through this scheme:

  1. Farmers are provided with financial assistance annually.
  2. In the event of death, the family receives an insurance amount.
  3. Farmers are encouraged to relieve debt and achieve self-reliance.

Benefits of the কৃষক বন্ধুর  Scheme

  • Financial assistance per year: Each registered farmer is provided with financial assistance of up to ₹10,000.
  • Insurance benefit: If a farmer dies before the age of 60, their family is provided with an insurance benefit of ₹2 lakh.
  • Support for small and marginal farmers: Farmers who cultivate less than 1 acre of land are also provided a benefit of ₹4,000 per year.
  • Direct transfer to bank account: The scheme amount is transferred directly to the farmer’s bank account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).
  • Farmers from all categories are eligible: Whether a landowner or a tenant farmer, all are eligible.

Assistance provided under the কৃষক বন্ধুর

These two types of assistance have been written, which come in the Krishak Bandhu Beneficiary List.

Death Benefit Scheme:

If a farmer dies under the age of 60, his or her family can receive compensation of up to ₹2 lakh.

Farmer registration is required for this benefit.

This amount is transferred to the family’s account within 15 days of the farmer’s death.

Financial Assistance Scheme:

Each farmer is provided with assistance of ₹10,000 per year.

This amount is disbursed in two instalments

First instalment: for the Kharif season

Second instalment: for the Rabi season

Krishak Bandhu Eligibility Criteria

The কৃষক বন্ধুর Scheme will only be available to farmers who meet all the eligibility criteria below. The West Bengal government has established these eligibility criteria to ensure that the scheme’s benefits reach only genuine and needy farmers.

  • The applicant farmer must be a permanent resident of West Bengal.
  • Farmers from other states are not eligible for this scheme.
  • The applicant farmer’s name must be registered in the state agriculture department’s farmer database.
  • If the farmer is not yet registered, they must first register on the কৃষক বন্ধুর Portal.
  • The farmer must have agricultural land.
  • Farmers will be identified based on land documents or Khasra-Khatauni.
  • Sharecroppers who lease land are also eligible, provided they have valid proof of their ownership.
  • To benefit from the scheme, a farmer must be at least 18 years of age and at most 60 years of age.
  • Farmers over 60 years of age will not be eligible for the Death Benefit Scheme.
