GST Login – How to Log in to the Online GST Portal in India

Logging in to the GST portal allows taxpayers to file GST returns, claim refunds, and respond to notices. You can also cancel your GST registration if you wish. Using your login credentials, anyone can access the GST Login portal and avail various compliance services and communicate with GST officials. This means you no longer need to physically visit CBIC offices to file GST returns.

What is the GST Portal?

The GST Portal is a unified, pan-India government website designed for GST compliance. The official GST website is available at gst.gov.in. This portal allows taxpayers to complete all GST-related compliance activities, both before and after logging in.

Register for GST Login

To register for GST, visit the gst.gov.in website and fill out the GST registration application. After submitting all the required details and documents, you are provided with an Acknowledgement Number for GST login. Upon verification by a GST officer, you are then issued a GST Identification Number (GSTIN). During this process, you also receive a username and can set a password for your official GST login.

Guide To Using Gst.Gov.In Before Logging In

The GST portal has several important tabs that are essential for GST compliance. These include:

Services (Registration, Invoices, Refund Tracking, etc.)

The Services tab of the GST portal provides features such as registration, payments, user services, refunds, the e-way bill system, and application status tracking.

  1. Registration: The first option under the Services tab is Registration, where you can apply for a new GST registration. This guide will help you complete your registration on the GST portal online. Additionally, you can also quickly and easily register for GST through the Clear platform.
  2. Payments: Here, any GST-registered taxpayer can create invoices and pay taxes. Additionally, there’s an option to track payment status.
    • Furthermore, the Track GST Payment Status feature lets you check whether your payment has been successful.
    • If there is a payment-related issue, ‘Grievance against Payment (GST PMT-07)’ is also available in this tab.
  3. User Services: This tab provides the following services:
    • Search for HSN Codes
    • List of Holidays
    • Cause List
    • GST Practitioner (GSTP) Locator
    • Generate User ID for Unregistered Applicants
    • Search for Advance Rulings
    • Verify RFN (Reference Number)
  4. Refunds: This tab has a single option, allowing you to track the status of your refund application.
  5. e-Way Bill System: This tab takes you to the e-Way Bill portal. You can also access FAQs and user manuals.
  6. Track Application Status: The last option on the Services tab is Track Application Status, where you can track the status of your GST registration and refund application online.

GST Law

This tab provides links to the websites of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and the Commercial Tax Departments of various States/Union Territories (UTs).

These links provide access to the CGST Act and its rules, the SGST Act and rules, the latest GST notifications, amendments, and circulars.

Downloads

This tab is primarily divided into two sections-Offline Tools and GST Statistics.

  • Offline Tools: The government provides both online and offline options for filing GST returns.
  • By clicking on the links in this section, you can download various GST forms and offline utilities for return filing.
  • GST Statistics: This tab provides past filing trends and other important statistical data related to GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B.

Search Taxpayer

You can search for any taxpayer using their GSTIN/UIN. Using the GST Search Tool or GST Number Search by PAN, you can easily verify a taxpayer’s information or all GSTINs registered against a PAN.

You can also access information about a Composition Dealer-whether they are enrolled in the scheme or have exited-by simply entering their GSTIN or the relevant state name.

This section also offers other features, such as the Search Composition Taxpayer Tool and the Search Temporary ID Tool.

Help and Taxpayer Facilities

  1. The Help tab on the GST portal’s homepage provides several useful resources, such as:
    • How-to Guides for various processes
    • System Requirements for different filings

  2. In addition, a list of common errors and their solutions is also available on the portal.

e-Invoice

  • This tab on the GST portal takes users to a page that allows them to click directly to the e-Invoice Portal.

GST Login Process For New Users At First Time

To log in to the GST portal for the first time, new users should follow these steps:

  • Click the Login link at the top right of the GST homepage.
  • Click the “First time login: If you are logging in for the first time, click here to login” link at the bottom of the page.
  • Enter your Provisional ID/GSTI/UIN and the password you received via email.
  • Then fill in the captcha and click Login.
  • You will now see the New Credentials page.
  • Set a username and password of your choice here.
  • Re-enter the password to confirm and click the Submit button.
  • A success message will appear, confirming that your username and password have been successfully created.
  • You can now log in to the official GST portal using these credentials.

What To Do After First-Time GST Login?

  1. When you first log in to the GST official website, you will be asked to fill out a Non-core Amendment Application to submit your bank account details.
  2. For this, click on the FILE AMENDMENT button.
  3. The editable Application Form will now open.
  4. Go to the Bank Accounts tab, click on ADD NEW, and enter your bank details.
  5. After filling in all the information correctly, apply.

How To Log In To The GST Portal?

Existing users can follow these steps to log in to the GST Portal:

  • Visit the official GST Login website www.gst.gov.in and click the ‘Login’ button in the top right corner of the homepage.
  • Enter your username, password, and Captcha code, then click the ‘Login’ button.
  • After successfully logging in, your dashboard will appear.
  • Here you can see:
    • A summary of your GST credits
    • FILE RETURNS tab

    • Your Annual Aggregate Turnover (AATO)

After logging into the GST portal gst.gov.in, the following services and options appear on the homepage:

GST Login Dashboard

Upon logging in, your dashboard appears first on the screen.

  1. This dashboard provides the following information:

  3. One-click access to your profile
  4. Facilities to view notices and orders
  5. Options to file returns
  6. Facilities to create challans for tax payments

  • Amendments to Non-Core Fields of GST Registration.
  • This means that if you need to make any non-critical changes to your GST registration, you can easily do so after logging in.

How To Download A GST Certificate Without Logging In?

You cannot download a GST certificate without logging in. To download it, you must sign in on the GST portal and access it under Services > User Services > View/Download Certificates.

How To Check GST Status?

GST registration status can be checked on the GST portal using the Track Application Status option. Enter the ARN or TRN to view whether your registration is approved, pending, or rejected.

How To Get A GST Login Number?

Visit gst.gov.in, apply online for GST registration, upload required documents, submit the form, and complete verification. After approval, the government issues a unique GST number (GSTIN).
